Standard University fee applies once all funded places have been allocated. This award facilitates healthcare professionals from primary care, pre-hospital care and the acute care setting to develop, enhance, appraise and evaluate evidence-based knowledge underpinning the issues relating to electrocardiography interpretation and treatment of the adult patient with cardiac disease. The award addresses the multi-professional care and management of clients who require cardiac monitoring.
Difficult to master and even harder to teachthe area of ECG interpretation has spawned an entire learning industry devoted to the topic. Medmastery is pretty impressive. The learning platform has accrued a bunch of prestigious awards over the last few years on the back of their simple didactic presentation and use of world-renowned educators.
Used by hundreds of hospitals and nursing schools around the country, ECG Online is offered as a stand alone course. This course is ideal for critical care nurses, cardiac technicians and other healthcare professional working with monitored patients. This course is also designed for healthcare professionals who participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, and for those preparing to take ACLS or PALS not mandatory.
Make EMS1 your homepage. Consistently following a process to analyze a patient's ECG will help you correctly identify their cardiac rhythm. ECG interpretation, using a step-by-step process, ensures we always provide the best patient care. ECG tracings — the diagnostic tool that analyzes the electrical function of the heart and measure voltage vertical measurement versus time horizontal measurement — can be confusing, so here are the ten steps I follow on every ECG or EKG to ensure I correctly identify the rhythm.
It is a quick and painless procedure. EKGs captures a tracing of cardiac electrical impulse as it moves from the atrium to the ventricles. These electrical impulses cause the heart to contract and pump blood.
The ECG machine is designed to recognise and record any electrical activity within the heart. It prints out this information on ECG paper made up of small squares 1mm squared. Each electrical stimulus takes the form of a wave and so patterns emerge made up of a number of connected waves.

Assuming that most of you reading this blog do not have that much time, please allow me to share what I have discovered in my years teaching ECGs to make the process more simple — and maybe even enjoyable. I imagine it is understood that learning all of ECG interpretation is going to take more than 10 minutes of your time and that it is not quite so easy. To be proficient, it will take a bit of effort.
As a general guide, one hour of active learning equates to one hour of CPD. It is the responsibility of the individual student to calculate how many hours of active learning have been completed. The hours of active learning estimated above should act as a guide to CPD hours. We have currently paused enrolments until the new reaccredited course is available.
